HR Manager

NORTH EAST (Ref 753)  12 month FTC to start March / April 2026

circa £50k + excellent pension + 33 days holiday + banks 

We are delighted to partner again with our client to recruit an experienced HR Manager to cover maternity.  A purpose led organisation and with strong values, and excellent leadership from the Director of HR, this is a great time to join the team.

Reporting to the HR Director, you’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality, day-to-day operational HR support across multiple sites. You’ll lead on complex employee relations matters, develop and embed HR policies, and provide expert guidance to leaders and managers. This is a hands-on role with strategic influence, offering variety, autonomy, and the opportunity to make a real impact.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Case Management

  • Lead on all complex HR casework including disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence, and safeguarding-related matters.
  • Provide expert advice to Managers and senior leaders on employment law and best practice.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation, investigation processes, and outcomes.
  • Liaise with legal advisors and unions as required.
  • Maintain the casework tracker and produce regular reports for SLT

HR Policy Development

  • Review and update HR policies in line with statutory changes.
  • Consult with all stakeholders including union representatives.
  • Ensure policies are accessible, user-friendly, and embedded through training and communication.
  • Lead on the development of toolkits, templates, and flowcharts to support policy implementation.

Training & Support

  • Deliver training and briefings to leaders and line managers on HR policies and case management.
  • Support with bespoke advice and coaching on handling sensitive HR matters.
  • Develop FAQs and guidance notes to build confidence and consistency across the business.

Strategic Contribution

  • Contribute to workforce planning, change management, and organisational development initiatives.
  • Support the HR Director in developing a proactive, responsive HR service.
  • Analyse trends in casework and policy usage to inform strategic decision

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION (Key Skills)

  • CIPD qualified or equivalent experience.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and best practice.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and influencing skills.
  • Experience managing complex casework and policy development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across multiple sites and stakeholders.
